It's been a while, but I recall that all you had to do was download the zip file from http://www.planex.co.jp/support/download/drive/nas-01g/debian.shtml

Then, extract the contents "backdoor" and "nas01g_debian.tgz" into the Share directory, reboot and done!

Typically, a storage area network (SAN) is part of the overall network of computing resources for an enterprise. Storage Area Network (SAN) allows a network of systems to access the storage over a dedicated storage

Try putting that error message into Google Translate. Although it usually gives you sentences that'll fail even primary school English class, but at least you'll know what it's trying to say.

It is likely though, that you may have a bad download of the firmware. Try downloading the firmware again to make sure that isn't the case. Systems like these will always hash check to make sure you're not flashing a broken image onto it.

You are right. The solution shoub be change the firmware.
I already have downloaded the English firmware and I have tried to install but I have done some mistake because the systems answer an error sentence (in Japanese).

I am very satisfied of the Nas 01G performance. And I will wait to have some spare time before to try to upgrade the firmware.

Thanks for the advice. I will unplug the fan as soon as I could.

To change the firmware, just go to the main PCI website at http://www.planex.net/download/nas/nas-01g.htm, and download a firmware.

You'll then need to decipher the Japanese web interface until you get the page that allows you to replace the firmware. After the reboot, your interface should now be in English.

Oh, if you don't like the fan, just unplug it. I've done that already, and the disk temperature isn't too bad. The device itself is large enough to give the hard disk passive air flow.

Hi,

I went to Japan in January and I bought the NAS-01G.
It is a fantastic device that can replace the load of computer in many tasks, iTunes storage, Media server, Bittorrent tasks, web server, ...

Nas 01g has a good ratio price / performance. These devices are really expensive in Europe. Recently, I've seen a SMC Networks Tigerstore 1 Tb (w/o bittorrent) on PC World Mag. and the price was 1200€. The price of NAS 01G 500 Gb was 200€.

My unique complain about this device is the noise of the fan. It could be uncomfortable at night.

Please, let me know about the script to install dropbear.
My firmware is in Japanese and I have tried to install in English but it has not been successful. I would like to translate or replace the web interface.
